No Control

| | |

Do you ever look around you and realize you have NO control?

The other day I was looking at my almost 3 year old in awe.

I didn’t have any control over her hair color, hair length (or lack of hair length), her eye color, or their shape.  Nothing.  Nothing from her head to her toes did I have control over. I couldn’t stop her from growing, just as easy as I could make her grow.  And she has grown.  I paused and look around to the rest of my children. SO BIG.  Again, I have no control over this.  Even before they were born, I had no control over their growth or any characteristics. There was nothing I could do to save the oldest one that day so long ago when she needed a “jump start” at birth.

Nothing I could do.

But that’s not all. . . There is more.

My friend who is hurting so badly.  The other friend who is sick.  The other friend whose marriage is so hard.  The one going through lonely days.

 And there’s more.

The parent without a job.  The girl who lost a baby.  The other who is sick.  The young mom who just had her first baby and is dealing with the pressure of all that newness.

Just even preventing sickness over the upcoming winter.  The changing in the weather.  The evil going on around us.  The hunger and thirst in this world.  The huge hurts everywhere.  The upcoming election.

The big things, and even the little things.  We have no control even to keep our heart beating.  Do you realize that? No. Control.

This is where we start falling apart.  Emotionally. When we realize we can’t control anyone or anything or even control our own self . . . life tends to look a bit huge.

YET.  Lest you start hyperventilating and run for the paper bag; let’s look at the truth.

GOD is in control.

.

Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?   And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:   And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?   Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?  (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.  Matthew 7:26

.

Even when it feels like all around you is falling apart.  Even when it does not feel like it God sees any of this.  We know GOD IS in control.

I love the quote from Lysa’s new book – Uninvited*:

The mind feasts on what it focuses on.

It’s so true.  So what are we focusing on?  Are we focusing the things we can’t control?  Our children. Our church. Our country. The upcoming election. Other people’s actions.  Peoples hurts.

————————————

Is our focus supposed to be to on worrying about all the things we can’t control?

Or

Should we be focusing on WHO is in control? Our GOD!

————————————

He is the one who knows all the answers to the “why” questions we are asking.

He knows the hurt we feel right now.

He knows the future that is in front of us.

He holds the whole world in His Hands!

————————————

He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence;

I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory:

the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

Trust in him at all times; ye people,

pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.

Psalm 62:5-8

————————————

We want to be friends with this Jesus.  Let’s draw close to Him.  Let’s talk with Him.  Let’s run to this refuge when our feelings want to take over, and when our worries try to ruin us.  Let’s run to praise Him when He makes a way.  Let’s look in awe at the many, many things that we see His great hand providing.

We must focus on Him.  He has the control.  Stagger Not!

Let’s focus on learning about Him.  Let’s grow closer to Him.  Be Strong in Faith!

Let’s focus on being what He wants us to be, rather than worrying about our inabilities. He Is Able.

————————————

Abraham staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief;

but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully

persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

Romans 4:20-21
