Finding the Dirt

Waterfall Background

Water.

It is an amazing thing to look at. It can be found in the extreme force of a waterfall. It is found in the gentle rain. It can be found in the beautiful snow. The dangerous ice. Not only is it found all over the earth, in all different forms; it is also found Inside us. We are made of water, we drink water, water is found in most of our foods. It is amazing.

No one can live with out it.

Something happened recently that made me see water in a new light.

My little tot turned the drinking water tap on and emptied the whole reservoir onto the kitchen counter. Water ran all over the counter in both directions. Then down the cabinets and onto the floor. It didn’t just stop there though. It continued down to the basement underneath. The water landed on the top of the dryer and into the laundry basket full of clean clothes. It dripped on to the canning shelves.

All this right as we were getting ready to leave the house in a big rush. Great fun!

As I set about to clean it all up, I enjoyed seeing the countertops, cupboard doors and floor getting a good shine job. At least I had incentive to clean haha!!

As my cleaning got to the basement however, I didn’t see much shine. I came crossed dirty water. Nasty water. I hadn’t realized how dirty the top of the dryer was. I was astounded with how much ‘dirt’ appeared with the clean water that came thru to the basement.

————————————

It hit me that sometimes we have dirt in our life. It is hiding deep inside our hearts. We don’t want anyone to see this dirt. Its hidden under a lot of ‘fake’ things sitting on top. We don’t want to show this to anyone.

God knows it is there. We might be able to fool a few people, maybe even fool everyone; We can’t fool God. He wants to come and wash our dirt away. He wants us to show Him the dirt we are hiding. He wants us to bring it out into the light. A gal recently said, “He wants us to put our foot out and he will wash us and make us clean.”

Read with me a little bit of the story of the last supper. This is when Jesus was washing the disciples feet…

He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!” John 13:6-John 13:9 NIV

Jesus, by doing this, was giving us an example of laying our life down and serving each other. He was giving us a physical example of serving.

Yet just recently while listening to someone speak, I realized there is something MORE that Jesus was trying to showing us, through this important act.

Jesus was washing away their dirt.

Read verse 10 of the same chapter;

Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean. John 13:10

He wasn’t even talking of a physical clean. He was talking of a spiritual clean. Did you know, he washed Judes’s feet? So physically Judus was JUST as clean as the rest of them. Yet Jesus called him unclean. Jesus said He knew One of them was not all clean.

Jesus was talking about a spiritual clean. Being clean on the INSIDE.

He wants to wash away the dirt in our Hearts.

Jesus wants to wash away all the dirt in our Hearts.  He wants to show us the dirt, He wants to wash the dirt away.  He went to the cross; He gave up Himself; He gave up His life; so that we might be clean.

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Ps 51:7-10 KJV

I’ll be the first to say: I have dirt.   Just this week I realized I have a burning jealously towards someone.  I’ll be the first to say, I have to run to Jesus, praise Him for showing me this and plead with Him to help me overcome the feelings. Only He can wash me clean.

Do you have dirt in your life that you need to bring to Jesus?  Dirt that only He can clean?
