Lord, I Need You
Do you ever just feel like crying out… “Lord I need you, oh I need you. Every hour I need you”?”
As I sit down to write today, that’s about all I can say. “Lord I need you!”
I look around my house and there are just so many things to do. So many messes to clean up. So many projects to do. So many things that need finished.
Dishes and cleaning.
Lesson plans to prepare.
Closets to clean out.
Trips to pack for.
Laundry to do.
Bills to pay.
Pictures to back up.
I can’t even figure out which way to turn first.
Friends to call and check in on.
Emails of encouragement to send.
A Grandma to write to.
The self-help book that is laying on the table gathering dust.
I can’t even find the space in my brain to file all my thoughts.
That Bible verse I’m still pondering that I read this morning.
The person I’m still working on forgiving.
That schedule makeover that needs to happen.
The strained relationship that needs mending.
The crazy fear of others that I’m still trying to push aside.
The conviction to be more ‘present’ in the everyday.
I don’t know what to do first. Everything looks overwhelming. So I run to my God place and hide. I want to just throw it all at His feet. I want to make out a list and have Him send me a email of what He wants me to focus on first. I want Him to send me a host of ‘servants’ to help me complete all the things I see around me that I have to do. I want to stay locked up in my quiet place with no interruptions, until I come out revived and ready to face it all again.
This song by Matt Maher comes to my mind.
“Lord, I Need You”
Lord, I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You’re the One that guides my heart
Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where You are, Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me
Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
Teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus, You’re my hope and stay
Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
You’re my one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
And Where You are, Lord, I am free. . .
Free from the fear, free from expectations, free from insecurities, free from the thoughts that plague my mind.
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus, You’re my hope and stay. . .
So my time of hiding is finished. The girls have found me in my quiet place. Time to face the day again. This time with a song on my heart.
