He Came to Save Us

|

When the coming of the Messiah was foretold, the people imagined Him coming to save them from some physical bondage.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 KJV

Christmas Crib. Nativity scene with the holy family and Jesus in the manger.

Jesus was born into a nation under the harsh RULE of the Roman Government.

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. Luke 2:1 KJV

When baby Jesus was born, Herod was afraid this little baby, would become the King of the Jews and take over his throne. He had all the babies in Bethlehem killed.

When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. Matt 2:3 & 2:16 KJV

When Jesus became a man, the people thought He was going to over throw the Roman government and Become the King. One time they even tried to make Him their King.

When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone. John 6:15 KJV

With the story of Jesus we get a glimpse of God’s big picture!!! The people all thought Jesus was coming to save them from the Roman Oppression. They were looking at their specific issues and problems. They wanted Him to solve their problems.

How would have that looked? If all Jesus came for was to save the Jews from the Romans. How would have the story went? If He was only coming to save them from their present situation?
Well, He would have took over, the Jews would have become a great nation again. Their present life would have been easier.

Here is the deal. Even great rulers die. Even rulers that save their people pass on. So if that was the way the story went, if Jesus would have came and saved the day for the Jews RIGHT then; it would have just been a TEMPORARY fix. Temporary.

INSTEAD. . .

God Looked at the BIG PICTURE. He sent His Son for more than just the saving of a nation. He came to give the Jews real freedom. Freedom from the old law. Freedom from the fear. Freedom for their souls. The Freedom of forgiveness. The freedom of sin. The REAL freedom. For the LONG TERM.

Sometimes, like the Jews, I find myself saying, Please Lord can you fix this? Please can you help my situation be a little easier? Please can you take away the hard things right now. Can you please help me with the Temporary?

And Just like the Jews, Jesus came to save US from the future.
He came to SAVE us from our sins!!
He came to save us from the old law.
He came to give us REAL Freedom.
Not just temporary relief.   Not just relief from our present situation.
A Lasting Solution. A solution for the Long-term.

Praise God!!
